T20 WC 2022, 38th Match, Super 12 Group 1: Australia defeated Afghanistan by the slimmest of margins in a nail-biting match. Rashid Khan produced some fireworks at the end with his blistering 48 from only 23 balls. They were, however, four runs short.

On the other hand, Australia was preoccupied with matters other than qualifying for the World Cup Semifinals.

Just in: Mohammad Nabi resigns as Afghanistan captain, says he "will continue to play for my country when the management & team need me"

The pressure showed throughout the game. They looked like they would be able to make 200 runs during their batting innings when Glenn Maxwell 54(32) and Marcus Stoinis 25(21) batted together, but they collapsed due to some brilliant death bowling by Naveen-ul-Haq, whose four overs went for 21 runs and he picked three for. After a significant partnership between Gulbadin Naib 39(23) and Ibrahim Zaidan 26(33), Australia brought themselves back into the game in their bowling innings; Afghanistan was 101/5 at one point.

When Rashid tonked a few, the pendulum swung back. Overall, another timid performance by the Aussies has jeopardised their chances of reaching the semi-finals. For Australia to advance, Sri Lanka must defeat England tomorrow at the SCG, or else the defending champions will be eliminated.
